Design your own pavilion

0.00 USD

The students will go through a fast-forward design process that includes orthogonal 4-view drawing, basic 3D CAD modelling and 3D printing. By taking part in this process, they will be able to connect an analogue sketch to a digital 3D drawing and back to a physical 3D printed model, observing how their design changes and evolves between these stages. Students will learn design, drawing and CAD skills and will experience what it looks like to be a designer-architect.

Exciting Lessons

Hands-on Activities

This digital pack contains a teacher's guide, lesson plan, presentation, instruction sheets, exercise sheets and equipment list. You will need a 3D printer with SD card, PLA Filament, computer, CAD software (free), orthagraphic 4-view drawing sheets, pencils.

This lesson could be tied into the study of:

Physics (material properties), Maths (pythagoras’ theorem, strength of structures), Design & Technology (ways of joining materials, additive and subtractive processes).

All of our lessons are designed to be flexible for all ages, so duration and difficulty level can be adjusted to suit your class.

Learning Outcomes

Create by following the basic steps of a design process.

Design a simple building and learn basic principles of building structures.

Sketch a simple building using orthographic 4-view drawing methods.

Transform analogue sketches into a digital model using CAD.

Turn digital 3D CAD models into physical models using 3D printing.

Success Criteria

Pupils to make design decisions on functionality and aesthetic.

Pupils to replicate their sketches in 3D CAD as closely as possible.

Pupils to work well together in teams.
