Hi! I'm Ceima Kemaldean - Computer Services Coordinator at Olds Municipal Library (Canada). I started my adventures in 3D printing at my local public library in 2016. Through many trials and errors, and a whole lot of forum sifting and lessons learned, I am now the library's 3D printing pro, ready to share my expertise!

How my Students use 3D Printing
We run programs on 3D development and printing for ages 8 to 108, but if you're younger, or older, and super psyched about 3D tech, come see me anyways! Patrons can become certified in using our printers, and are encouraged to print their own 3D creations. We recently partnered with Makers Making Change, an initiative that connects volunteer makers with people who need assistive technologies, and with the help of PrintLab, we will inspire more makers in our community!
The Importance of 3D Printing in Education
So much of our world and what we create is manifested digitally, but we still have one foot firmly planted in the material world. With 3D printing, learners develop new thinking skills, like adapting digital objects to real world laws of gravity and physics. The ability to develop something on the digital plane, then hold it in hand shortly after, puts into perspective one's own capabilities and the possibilities of their creativity!
My Thoughts on PrintLab Classroom
PrintLab has a number of presentations that put 3D printing and development fundamentals into basic terms for people of all ages. Sharing information and concepts I understand with those who do not can be a struggle at times; but with these resources, getting over that hurdle will be far easier and faster, and we can get to creating sooner!
My Advice for Teachers Getting Started with 3D Printing
The most important advice I can give is: play! Don't be afraid to try new things and develop a sense of wonder for 3D printing. You will struggle at times, but there is a strong community to help solve problems and develop the skills and confidence you need to become a 3D printing pro! Your excitement will motivate your students to follow suit, and dive in head first into the world of 3D printing and development. Happy creating!
