3D Printing, Entrepreneurship and STEM Education

It's been predicted that 85% of jobs that will exist in 2030 haven't been invented yet and if you couple this with the opportunities arising with 3D printing, you can begin to understand the importance of embedding design and entrepreneurial skills into education

Imagine the amount of innovative ideas generated by young people who are graduating from the education system. Now imagine how many of these ideas are never developed into products or solutions due to the large costs and risks that come with traditional ways of ideating, prototyping, testing and manufacturing.

Have we been missing out on groundbreaking solutions for climate change, poverty, sustainable vehicles, space travel and more?

With 3D printing becoming accessible to the mass market, there is huge opportunity for the next generation to bring ideas, products and solutions to life. Check out the below infographic to learn about the benefits of 3D printing for startups and entrepreneurs.

The Relevance to STEM Education

It's been predicted that 85% of jobs that will exist in 2030 haven't been invented yet and if you couple this with the opportunities arising with 3D printing, you can begin to understand the importance of embedding design and entrepreneurial skills into education.

By no means are we saying that every student will start a business or become an entrepreneur, but the creative and critical skills involved in such endeavours can be extremely valuable to young people regardless of the career path they choose.

Here at PrintLab, one of our core missions is to upskill the next generation workforce by providing teachers with 3D printing curriculum that addresses the needs of the future. We'd like to finish this blog by showing you an overview video of one of our projects that focuses on entrepreneurship. The lesson involves students editing 3D scan data, displaying it online as digital inventory and developing a business proposal for an online store. We hope you enjoyed reading this post and if you're interested in a FREE 7-day trial of PrintLab Classroom, head here!
