Homeware Design Challenge

Challenge Challenges

Welcome to PrintLab’s Homeware Design Challenge, where we are giving you the opportunity to design a real retail product for the ōH Foundation store, located in the historic city of Chester in the UK. If your solution is chosen by the ōH Foundation, we’ll work with you to make any necessary refinements and additions before manufacturing and displaying the homeware pieces in the store for a limited period of time – with 80% of sales revenue going directly to you. • The product must be a desirable homeware piece that incorporates at least 1 3D printed component.
  • The product must be 3D printable with no support material.
  • The product should be an object that does not come into direct contact with food.
  • The product when assembled should be no larger than 180x180x180mm.

  • This challenge is rated as intermediate and is suitable for all those who have moderate-strong skills in 3D design and 3D printing.
  • The estimated time to design a submission is 7+ hours. This may vary depending on the number of iterations you choose to make. We recommend breaking the challenge up into multiple sessions (e.g. 7 x 1 hour sessions), which will allow you to 3D print necessary objects between sessions.

To participate in this challenge, you will require:

  • A laptop or computer with either Tinkercad or Fusion 360 software (both free for educational and personal use).
